TOGETHER FOR A MOMENT
By Vice President Bob Spencer

Yesterday I rested at home after a two-week trip to Colombia. Tomorrow I head for Sierra Leone, Africa but first I need to tell you what a wonderful Latin America conference we had in Cartagena.

God gave us clear direction and fellowship. In one evening service the Lord brought together 9 missionaries that had helped start the work in Colombia more than 30 years ago. Some were visiting and some were working with other agencies, but the Lord brought us together for a moment that will long live in our hearts and minds. Pastor Diego called to the front of the church all the pastors of the churches of Christians in Action in Cartagena who had come together that evening. It was so good for us and for the church to honor those who began the work and see that God has in place those that will eventually carry on without us.

These 9 missionaries were instrumental in laying the foundation for CinA churches throughout Central and South America. Greatly missed from the picture are Tony and Margaret Heredia, who are serving the Lord in the U.S. and Mexico.

In Sierra Leone, as in many countries, carrying your cargo on your head, or in your hands, is normal. So CinA Vice President Bob Spencer is arriving in Freetown the normal way.

To Remember This Day

CinA Vice President Bob Spencer was presented with a coconut sapling to plant next to the school. The tree is a reminder to the Kono people of Bob’s visit to their township, and of God's provision through people far away to repair the roof of the Beth Konold School, which had blown off during a very heavy rainstorm.

“Build It and They Will Come”

These children in their CinA school uniforms have already “come,” and are clearing out the weeds in the partially built multi-purpose building that will serve as a church and as extra school space for the Ken Wiebe School in Bo. Thank you to the people at Broadway MB Church in Chilliwack, BC, Canada for your generous involvement in these children’s lives.

In Freetown, Sierra Leone, Ken Wiebe speaks like a native as he shares the Gospel in the  Krio language. About five minutes into the conversation with other Muslims, this Fula Muslim joined in to debate. He said we worship three gods, one of them being Mary, and that we are terribly gullible to believe that Jesus rose from the grave. It would seem so futile, were it not for the Holy Spirit Who will continue to speak with this man long after we have finished. Although he would not allow us to pray for him, he was visibly moved when we told him that God desires to reveal Jesus Christ, the Savior, as He has to thousands of Muslims who have prayed for the truth. About 80% of Sierra Leone is Muslim, most of whom are illiterate and are totally dependent on the verbal teaching they receive in the mosques. Christians in Action has 14 churches in Freetown and surrounding cities, with 6 more beginning in new areas.
