Kono School Crisis Dear friend of Missions, Just a few years ago we began to build an important school in the remote area of Sierra Leone, West Africa. When Beth and I visited the site in 2004, the pastor of the CinA church in that area announced that the school was to be named after Beth. Beth was a little embarrassed, but thrilled to be honored in such a way. Kono is the name of the district, what we might call the county. (The similarity of the name to my name did not escape our attention!) Kono County is where the infamous diamond mines of Sierra Leone are located. Because of that, the area has taken on a “frontier town” character, similar to frontier towns of yesteryear in our own country. So you can imagine the great needs and the risky lifestyles of many Kono people. Now that the school building has been completed, we have some shocking news. Here is the letter I received April 14, from our national director, Christian Kallon:
Sincerely yours to reach our world for Jesus,

| The roof of the school was blown off of our Kono School building and onto a structure in our neighbor’s compound. | |||
