Recently while Rick was preaching and Heidi and I were giving out tracts in the park, we met a man named Cesar. After a greeting and some small talk, we asked him if he’d ever prayed to give his life to the Lord.

“Yes,” he smiled, “two years ago, right over there!” He nodded toward a bench close to where we were standing. “And it was that day the police picked me up and took me to a drug/alcohol rehab center. I spent three months there and I haven’t touched a drop since. Jesus is my Lord!”

Rick remembered meeting Cesar, and recalled “how the man was weeping like a broken-hearted child after receiving Christ. Right at the moment when the meeting was finishing, up came the police, out came the handcuffs and Cesar was taken away, unbeknown to us, to a place that would help reinforce that which the Lord had started in his life.”

Last week our son, Alex, was pretty bummed out. His shoes were literally falling apart and we were not having any success finding him new ones. The largest size available in the stores is 10. Alex is an 11 ½. With a bit of frustration, Alex resolved to wear his “holy” shoes because another pair could not be found locally.

A few days later we received a gift box in the mail from the states.

The box contained items of gold such as peanut butter, chocolate bars, razors, coffee…and a brand new pair of 11 ½ shoes for Alex. What great timing! What great therapy…Alex was very excited about his shoes and the rest of us were excited about the simple things in the gift box that perk up life on the mission field.

Praise the Lord! The Philippine Medical Mission Outreach 2008 is on its way. We have 56 members from abroad (that's the US and Okinawa) and about a dozen in-country Filipinos. The team is coming together wonderfully in a very short period of time. All the meds and supplies arrived without loss or hindrance - we even came away with a box of coconut pies somehow. We had our first site outreach today. We saw approximately 650-700 people with 358 decisions for Christ. What an awesome God we serve!

As this Action Newsletter is being printed, the PMMO (Philippines Medical Mission Outreach) is just beginning. One week ago, these wonderful volunteers were carefully packaging medicine and vitamins in small bags to be sent to the Philippines. Age doesn't matter when you serve the Lord. Thank you Verna, Lenore, Alice, Leonard and Joy. Do you see 4 boxes mixed in with luggage? These are the freshly packed medicine and vitamins on their way to the Philippines, accompanied by these short-term PMMO missionaries. Or is it the other way around?
