A Heart for People

News and pictures from Christmas on our mission fields have been reaching us this month.  Read on!

Macau, South China

John and Suzanna Hyrons share their heart daily with the wives and children of men in prison, as well as with the men themselves.  Their prison ministry includes having a Christmas Love Tree service and gifts for the children of these men.  Wong Sui Kau (Robert)  led the service.  He used to be on drugs and served time in the Macau prison a number of years ago.  He came to know Christ, was discipled, and is now very active in the prison ministry.

At the Christmas Day Care program, Suzanna shared the gospel to the parents and families, using the Chinese character meaning how you can have God’s real blessing in your life.

Did you read “Ricks Unusual Day” in our January Action Newsletter?  Here is Rick again, describing his Christmas:
“It’s Christmas time in the jungle.  Let me tell you about yesterday’s flight, a most exciting one for me.  It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning when we landed in Tiweno.  The Waorani had been arriving for several days already, and a number of them had walked or canoed for two or three days to be at the celebration.  They were coming for one purpose:  to glorify the Name of the Lord and lift up Jesus!  Nobody knew that their good friend and brother Steve Saint would be coming in to join them.  Upon our arrival the excitement was deafening!!

“The day’s plan was announced.  First, everyone would join in going down to the river to baptize the new believers.  Then the Body of Christ would gather to sing praises, hear the Word and share communion.  After church, the entire community would come together in the huge common-house for plenty of good food.  Sports and games were left for the late afternoon.  It was awesome to see God’s faithfulness to families, as two, three, and sometimes even four generations of believers were walking humbly before the Lord.  Dewey, Kenta, Pa, Oma and Mincaye were some of the first believers and now to see their children and grandchildren helping to lead worship and serve communion was very powerful.”

A Heart for Africa

Ingrid Bullock, a new missionary, has been sending some wonderful stories of God’s plans and care.  Soon after arriving in Sierra Leone, West Africa, she contracted malaria plus a major sinus infection.

Ingrid writes, “Out of the malaria came a good thing.  On a follow-up visit to the doctor, I asked her what she needed most to help her in her efforts.”  (Ingrid was thinking of medical items.)  After thinking for a moment, Dr. Palmer said, ‘I really need someone to pray with my patients.  I would like to, but I just don’t have the time.’  I was so moved.  Here I was offering her the world and what she requested was Jesus.”

A Heart for Colombia

Jim and Miriam Marquardt work and minister in the University Foundation Bible Seminary of Colombia, located in Medellin.  (think Meh-de-een.)  They write:  “William and Beatriz Urango came to the Seminary from hot coastal Tierra Alta.  William sought a theological degree; for over 11 years  both sought a child.  God answered both prayers.  Daniela became 2 years old on December 25; William graduated Nov. 23.”

Daniela, Beatriz, William, and Beatriz’s brother (at right)
are now back in Tierra Alta, where William is a pastor.

A Heart from Colombia to Africa

Cecia Maturana was one of the first CinA missionaries in the team (composed of people from Colombia and Brazil) who opened the field of Guinea-Bissau in 2002.  During her furlough, Cecia coordinated a retreat that included the Marquardts and other missionary speakers.

Todd Caplinger writes:
“We had our Christmas service this morning. (Dec. 23)  Aside from having over 200 people in attendance, we saw an angel.
“The church was packed!  We had over 100 children and just as many adults.
“So many people came that we had them sitting outside of the church listening to the service.  Please pray with us that we get the resources to expand and build a larger sanctuary.”

This is the angel and Todd too!
