As Norma shared Jesus with people in the area, some received Jesus as their Savior. Norma began a Bible Study with them. Eventually, Tony Hernandez, who was trained with Christians in Action in Guatemala, left his home country and, together with his wife, Candi and their three children, became the church pastor. The church meets in a palm frond-roofed temporary shelter. Norma tells the story:
Without the presence of a watchman, tools and materials have a tendency to disappear. We called a workday and several joined in the project. We paid two men to mix the mud.
Not all is excitement and smiles though. A nine-year-old boy from the Sunday school was being threatened with kidnapping by a newcomer to the community. We were able to place him in the home of missionaries until the home for needy children is finished. Jayson, who often went hungry, is delighted to be surrounded by so much love, safety, attention and food. A few weeks ago an eleven-year-old boy was raped and murdered nearby, so safety is a serious issue. Christians in Action missionaries continue to work on the front lines, even in the midst of real dangers. Please pray for Norma, Tony and Candi and this new cluster of believers, as they grow in their faith and share Christ with their family and neighbors. |
