Pastor Butch and Arnel were part of an annual evangelistic medical/dental outreach to the Philippines in April. Each year, thousands hear the Gospel and receive medical treatment that would otherwise be out of their reach. Local CinA pastors and missionaries are discipling those who came to Christ during the outreach. With over 2,000 new "babes in Christ" this is no small task. Keep them all in your prayers!

"The team had invited forty-five youth to attend church. We heard that all forty-five came to church after the team had left!" Arnel was excited to hear that God is doing a work among the young people who were touched by the annual short-term outreach to the Philippines! Here is the on-site report from Arnel and Butch as the team ministered love and caring to those with broken hearts and hurting bodies.

On the first day God brought 682 people for medical treatment and 160 for dental work! A marriage was restored as the husband gave his life to the Lord. The couple returned the next day to tell us that they were committed to the Lord and to each other.

Patients receive individual care as doctors take time with them for physical examinations and treatment, while listening to their (spiritual) hearts, and sharing the Gospel of comfort.

After having seen a total of 1,400 people by the second day, we opened two sites on Day 3. Handumanan is a small village that is filled with people who were relocated because a mall had been built on the place they were living. They were what the locals call "squatters." Their homes are built from cardboard and whatever they can put together anywhere they can find a place, because they have no land.

The day starts at 5:30 a.m. People had been standing in line since 4:00 a.m. Even though we had closed the registration, they did not want to leave. We reached 900 people with the Gospel and treated 800. We cleaned out the pharmacy to give to the other hundred—even down to the last toothbrushes and toothpaste—and they were satisfied. It was amazing! There was no grumbling or complaining as we had warned them that we didn't have medicines for everyone. Dr. Sheila prayed for a person with paralysis, and he was healed. Later as the team drove away, the man was standing waving goodbye with the arm that just hours ago he could not move.

I met a lady whom we helped in 2005. She has now turned that help around by teaching mothers how to form a team to keep their village clean. She said more and more people are joining in and cleaning up the areas around their houses. They get together for a time of praise and worship in the middle of the day when it is too hot to work outside.

We are headed over to the beautiful island of Palawan. There the need is so great as well. We have prepared the medicines for four sites—three villages and a prison. People waited in line in 100 degrees temperature, 70-80% humidity and there were lots of mosquitoes. You can also imagine what it was like for the medical and dental team inside the building with so many people.

Up to this point we had seen over 3000 people. Hundreds gave their lives to follow Jesus and made Him their personal Savior and Healer. At one site, the happiest woman in the world [as Butch calls her!] came around thanking everyone for her new Bible and toothbrush, and a bag of rice.

We saw over six hundred prisoners at the prison and penal farm in Palawan, along with some of their families who live on the compound. We also ministered to the correctional officers, nurses and leaders in the prison colony. It was a big breakthrough! The team was the only medical-dental outreach that has been allowed to enter the prison in ten years! The medical facilities there are outdated and many prisoners die for lack of funding and medication.

The people bring their prescriptions and receive medicines at the security window.

At the last site, Dr. Sapna prayed for a woman with blurred vision. She was able to see clearly! A man who came in with crutches was prayed for at every station—registration, waiting/evangelism room, and clinic. His wife came back later, crying, because her husband was able to walk without the crutches. They had spent thousands of pesos on hospital bills and now with prayer he could stand on his feet without assistance. He accepted the Lord and wants to get baptized!

We treated a total of 4,292 people, and pulled so many teeth that I will not try to give a count!

I cannot fully express what I have witnessed and experienced! I want to encourage you to join us next year as a Christian in action! We need more people, even from a non-medical background. If you can be a hugger and have a walking, talking testimony for the Lord, we need you to help us reach out to the lost, lonely and brokenhearted!

  • 4292 people heard the Gospel and received medical and/or dental care
  • 3472 people gave their lives to Christ
  • 9665 prescriptions were distributed
  • 2848 Bibles were given to those who had no Bible
