Missionary to Macau

Daniel is a 6-year-old boy living in Macau, South China. John and Suzanna Hyrons have been giving spiritual support to Daniel and his family and are seeing the hand of God at work in their lives.

Mrs. Leung from our church has a daughter, Ah Yan, who has lupus. Ah Yan is stable and attending school. But we found out last week that Mrs. Leung's six-year-old grandson, Daniel, was diagnosed with leukemia in the lymph nodes and it's in the middle stage. His parents are Ah Kay, son of Mrs. Leung, and her daughter-in-law, Ah Laan who was baptized in our church a number of years ago. Ah Kay is not a Christian.

A few days ago, Daniel had surgery for four hours to make two incisions in his chest to prepare for the chemotherapy. The doctors feel it's better to have the chemo there than in his hands.

I went in today for a few minutes and he was sound asleep, his Dad and Mom by his side, in a sit up position on the side of the bed. His body and head were leaning forward on the dining tray, cushioned by a pillow. His parents said he had too much pain in the head lying down the normal way and could sleep better in this position.

Yesterday afternoon, Daniel asked Jesus into his heart! Sue Yeung, a nurse who attends our church, took him through a child's picture pamphlet explaining the way of salvation and he prayed to receive Jesus.

God is beginning to work out His purpose in all of this.

We received a phone call from Mrs. Leung this morning. The latest report on Daniel was very good and the chemo is doing what it's supposed to do. In addition, he has had no bad reaction to the treatment and has a very good appetite. He does have a bit of a problem with his legs in walking but they are not sure what is causing it.

Today Daniel's father, Ah Kay, was in church for the second time! After our service we all split up into small groups for prayer. Christine, who was in Ah Kay's prayer group, led him to the Lord and Peter Chan, who was baptized back at Easter, prayed with him. Daniel's two older sisters, Annie and Jessica, do not know the Lord…yet!

Little Daniel is doing well at the hospital and has a good appetite at the moment. But the doctors said next week he will be starting another phase of the chemotherapy which will be more intense and they anticipate a loss of appetite, he will lose his hair, and there will be other effects. In addition he will be in and out of the hospital for 2 years and will not be able to attend any school for at least three years.

We want to see Daniel and his father grow in the knowledge of the Lord, as well as Ah Laan (his mother) as she takes care of Daniel each day in the hospital. His older sisters, Jessica and Annie are also now very interested in attending the Sunday School at our church. So again we see God accomplishing His purpose in all of this!

November 15
The doctors said that Daniel may be able to go out of the hospital for a short period of time as his situation has improved. So we are grateful for everyone who is praying for this little guy and for his entire family....and we ask for your continued prayers.

We are seeing God work out His purposes and know He can take a bad situation and bring something good out of it!
