You've heard about these short-term teams that go overseas for two weeks or more. Do you ever wonder if they can accomplish anything in such a short time?

One short-term team to the Philippines, along with several national missionaries, headed for the island of Romblon in 2001. In just two weeks a church nucleus had formed and national pastor Ronald Beringuel was appointed to nurture the new Christians. That church has grown and is going on strong today! Working with nationals is key for establishing an ongoing work.

After five years of ministry, they have their own praise band, reach out to youth with music lessons coupled with Bible study, and run a thriving children's ministry complete with annual camp. In March, Pastor Ronald taught a Worship Seminar. Baptismal services were held at the seashore in April, and in May the band held a fundraising concert in the city, the proceeds being used to acquire a guitar and drums.

"This is what I asked Sahadevan, 72, whom I encountered near our house. He told me he was begging for a few rupees in order to purchase some poison to kill himself, as his daughter-in-law had turned him out after ill-treating him," missionary Paul Chandran reports. "My son Stephen and I took him to Asha Kendram, our shelter for the elderly. He is very happy there, being well looked-after." Paul and his wife Leela also operate outreach programs and an orphanage in their country of south India. They comment, "We are so happy that with your help we can provide them with a loving home and care for them in the Name of our Lord Jesus."

Originally started in Freetown in 1969, the ministry has been under national leadership since 1985. The early teams from overseas planted churches in the capital city of Freetown. The nationals expanded the outreach to other cities and provinces, where they have planted more churches, and are committed to reaching the entire country for Christ. Christian Kallon, national director, says that the next major project is to construct a national missions center on a hill overlooking Freetown. The building will also have facilities for trainees and visiting teams.
