…in Sierra Leone,
by Field Director Christian Kallon

Traditional devil masqueraders march through the streets. Many children find it difficult to resist following, watching their drunken antics as they progress from house to house. This is Christmas, and the greatest excitements to which these children are exposed lead them away from the Lord.

While this is a time of celebration for Christian families, it's beyond the means of most parents to provide gifts for their children at Christmas. Among the poorest of families, children are sometimes compelled to hawk items along the streets and sidewalks to make money for the family. Christmas is a time when they can boost their meager profits.

Against this background, CinA organized a special Christmas Camp for some 100 children in our Freetown churches. Over the four days, the children enjoyed a fun-filled program of activities and spiritual challenges, which went a long way to counter the negative influences all around them. They were deeply moved by their experience. Any time I meet up with them, I am asked, "When is the next camp?" We have agreed that it must become a yearly event.

Children, too poor to attend school, are sent onto the streets to sell rather than attend school. Without an education their chances for hearing the Gospel are poor.

Children like these young girls are exposed to drunkenness and other unwholesome entertainments over the Christmas season. But not this year! Camp was an exciting time for them as they took part in fun and educational activities that showed them the way to Christ.

…in Ecuador,
by Field Leader
Rick La Bouef

A drunken man named Jimmy responded to the Gospel and accepted Jesus in the park recently. Four years ago, his wife had left him to go to work in Europe, as many Ecuadorians do. Their children live with her parents in Quito and for Jimmy, life has been as empty as his bottle. It used to be that only men abandoned their families like that, but now, sad to say, many women leave for the US, Spain or Italy in search of more money! Jesus said, "If you continue in My Word, you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free." This man sure needs to be set free and Jesus is the only one who can restore a life. Please pray for Jimmy.

…in Germany,

With the temperature hovered around freezing point, I was amazed how bearable standing in the cold for 5-6 hours could be [operating the book table in the city]. I'm sure it was special grace from God. I was inviting people to a lecture dealing with evolution and creation. I had many discussions with biologists as well as faculty and students from other branches of the natural sciences.

Amazingly, the most objective discussions I had were with top notch micro-biologists and professors. They are often ready to admit that evolution has not been empirically proven and are open to discuss creation. I invited a biologist to come to the lecture and she even bought the book authored by the speaker, which calls macro-evolution into question. Usually the most arrogant and vocal opponents of the possibility of creation are the high school teachers and students.

The picture shows the "Phyletisches Museum," the home museum of Ernst Haeckel, the German equivalent of Darwin. Professors often come to discuss creation at CinA's book table in the market not far away.

A hall which seats 450 people was reserved for the event. Ten minutes before the lecture, it had to be moved to a larger hall which seats around 800. Even then it was over full and I sat on the stairs in the back. Lectures like this are chipping away at the atheistic darkness.

We have to deal with extreme atheistic pressure in Jena and I need your prayers not to cave in as others have done, but rather to see people set free from the error of the absolute materialistic mindset.

…in Colombia,
by Vice President Bob Spencer and Missionary Andrea Francis

A refuge for escaped African slaves since the 1700s, Palenque today is a trans-cultural city where people of African and Hispanic origins co-exist peacefully. Each follow their own animistic religious traditions, with the exception of a growing CinA congregation of Christians—the first ever evangelical church established in the area!

Palenque is located near the foothills where the revolutionary forces of Colombia also reside. It has become the perfect location for our missionary trans-cultural training school where students can experience a slice of African culture in Latin America. Our missionary team from Brazil and Colombia trained here to prepare for ministry in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. It is not only a good place to focus on missionary training, but is also itself a mission field where the students' faith will be tested in every way. Classes are held at the church, students stay in the homes of Christians and meals are served in a grass-topped, open-air hut. A building project is underway to provide facilities for the students and staff.

Through the years, nationals, short-term missionaries and career missionaries have witnessed to so many people in Palenque. We really need to seek God´s face for a breakthrough so that Satanic fortresses that are binding the people can be broken and they can be really free to accept Christ.

A typical street scene in Palenque. Horses and donkeys are a common method of transportation.

This young lady had emotional and physical problems, and was suffering with hallucinations. Miriam Marquardt (right) takes vital signs before counseling with the young woman and leading her to Christ.
