A Sierra Leonean National's Point of View, by Christian Kallon, Field Director

God deserves the praise and honor for the work of CinA in Sierra Leone. Our ministry can be placed under two eras, namely, the Missionary Era which lasted for 16 years, and the National Era which is now 20 years.

Before the missionaries of CinA came into Sierra Leone, most Gospel preaching churches were limited to urban centres. The political atmosphere was that of a one-party system which was marked not only by autocratic rule but also suppression and mismanagement of the nation's limited resources. During this time, Christianity was more adult oriented.

At the coming of CinA missionaries, attention was focused on youth and children who were like the "lost generation." The relevant foundational training brought in by the missionaries presented a paradigm that led to the production of solid discipleship. Those same people who were discipled back then are now today's key leaders for denominational churches and parachurch organizations, as well as those in CinA leadership.

The second era was marked by the rise of national leaders under the umbrella of the National Conference of Christians in Action Churches. In this era the nationals sought to consolidate what the missionaries had begun and the challenge to take our land for Jesus, knowing that as nationals, this is our home and there is nowhere else that we can go.

This national era, however, has had its challenges as we met crises and learned on our own to seek the Lord's wisdom. With the coming of the rebel war and the dwindling of resources to run the ministry, the situation worsened. We, however, thank God for our international partners who over the years have been standing with us in our need.

In the midst of these challenges God has been good in helping us plant more churches and establish four schools.

Our goals are many: to plant churches in all twelve districts in Sierra Leone, for our evangelism courses to become a national program serving the entire body of Christ in Sierra Leone, and to acquire property to build our national office, office for all Africa, a center for the training of pastors and missionaries, as well as dormitories for a retreat and lodging of international guests.
