  Dear Friends of International Missions...

For a long time now I have understood the need for prayer, but God has given me new emphasis and insight lately. Prayer is so vital to the missionary work that we do; so I wonder sometimes why we don't have masses of people willing to commit to prayer for missions and for CinA. I decided a few years ago to send our global prayer bulletin only to people who specifically requested it in order to maximize both prayer and the use of funds. So you ask, how many people have asked to receive the prayer bulletin? The answer is one hundred.

I am thankful for each person who prays for us whether many or few. In eternity we will find that any lasting effort on our part was covered many times over in prayer by our faithful partners. But instead of one hundred, we should have many hundreds committed to praying in that way. Why is it so difficult, as difficult as finding those who will give finances? There are many possible answers: people's busy schedules, commitments to other mission groups, or even slowness in developing a healthy prayer life. Or could it have more to do with a fear that God may call you to be the answer to your own prayer!?

One of the key passages on missionary prayer is found in Matthew 9:38. Jesus asks us to pray that the Lord of the harvest will send laborers into His harvest. A missionary working in Central America among villagers told me recently that she has many invitations to go into other villages; they are begging for her to come and teach them and their children about Jesus. Why doesn't she go? Because her present workload is exhausting and there are no laborers to send. She said that she would rather have workers to reach these lovely people for Christ than for someone to give her a million dollars. Wow! Given the choice between receiving a "cool mil'" or sending more missionary workers, which would you choose? Don't answer that until you have prayed! :-)

Will you invest yourself in praying that the Lord of the harvest send more laborers into His harvest fields? I am not necessarily asking that you go, but as you pray, allow God to speak to you about His will for your life, too. Pray-ers tend to become go-ers and giv-ers; I know that from experience. Myself.

  Yours for the harvest,

PS Christians in Action desperately needs committed prayer warriors as well as committed contributors and missionaries. The harvest fields stand ready for laborers to reach in and take the harvest. Respond today as God is speaking to you. Please use the reply card enclosed. Thank you.
