| Zenei and Mitsuko Arakaki, | |||
| Okinawa, Japan | |||
In the late
1950's Mitsuko worked at the PX (department store) at the US Air Base in
Okinawa, Japan. Marshall Ruth, a GI, and later a CinA missionary to Korea,
witnessed frequently to the Japanese employees at the PX. Mitsuko read some
of the tracts he gave out and received Jesus in 1961. Since she knew English
quite well Mitsuko began passing out tracts to Americans. She also shared
the Gospel with the Japanese people. In dedicating herself to the Lord, she
gave up her job and entered the Bible Institute of CinA in Okinawa in 1963,
becoming a Christian worker after graduation.
Zenei also went on to complete CinA's Bible Institute and become the pastor of CinA's Okinawa Light of the World Church, which had by then moved to an area called Kishaba. Since then they have relocated to a new church premises in the same area. The church building is used much in the community because they network with other churches as well as with Yomitan International Church, CinA's ministry to US Service personnel and other international people living in Okinawa. The average attendance of the Sunday worship service is 40, which is a good number for Japan. They have kept witnessing and handing out tracts over the years. Seeds of the Gospel are sown abundantly. "We believe that the time of harvest is coming just around the corner! We expect this, encouraged by the word of Psalm 31:19-20. Hallelujah!" they exclaim. |
