Dear Friends, Greetings from London! I want to begin this letter by telling you of a few changes that I have initiated, just in case I have not told you up to now. First of all, I am now sending two letters out that with slightly different emphasis. The first one is what I would call a ministry newsletter. In it I hope to highlight more of the things that are happening with us in ministry. I will talk mainly about our church development, the basketball outreach, community relations, international activities, and so forth. That letter will have Christians in Action as the heading on the top of the page. The second will be this letter, which has our names as the heading on the top of the page. I hope in this letter to tell you more about the happenings of our family, so that you will have a better understanding of what we are doing and can pray for us with knowledge. Most of you are now receiving this letter by e-mail, which is a much quicker and cheaper way to send and receive mail. Sending it by e-mail also saves me a lot of time. If you are receiving this letter by regular post and would like to get it by e-mail, please send me a note at my e-mail address at the bottom. Now I would like to tell you a bit about my daughter, Nadine, who turned 17 in December 06. In my letter in January I wrote about her college and career hopes. I would like to tell you a bit more about our miracle daughter. Nadine was born on December 14, 1989, which was exactly 3 years to the day that our daughter, Anna Lynn, was born. Yes, for those of you who didn’t know, we had another daughter who only lived for an hour. God gave us so much grace, and in a way, Nadine was in some ways His way of giving Anna back to us. But Nadine had a few hurtles to climb as she grew older. Over
the years her legs began to bow and then they became very distorted, so much
so that eventually we had to see a specialist. Eventually we were admitted
to Great Ormond Street Hospital, one of the world’s leading children’s
hospitals, and Nadine went through much treatment, four major operations and
much recovery time in the hospital. She had a very rare condition known as
“Blouts” disease, which caused the bones in her legs to distort. In fact,
before her two final operations her left leg below the knee was actually
turned by 45 degrees. The months of time out from school took their toll on Nadine’s confidence in the classroom. Although she is extremely bright, her study habits did not develop well and she found herself struggling in school. She also developed some social problems since we were not the only ones influencing her. I believe that this is one of the reasons why she has struggled with her commitment to Christ. We had some very difficult moments with her a couple of years ago, but she is becoming much more mature and is beginning to listen much more. She is a fine girl and we are very proud of her. Perhaps I’ll have a chance to say a bit about my son Nathan in my next letter. I did want to ask for prayer as I have a few things coming up very soon. This weekend I will head over to N. Ireland to meet with our folk there in a ministry called the Mustard Seed Mission. I’ll be meeting with the brethren there to discuss the future and direction of the ministry there. I am also planning to go to Sierra Leone West Africa at the end of May, after our anniversary celebrations here in London. I will be the main speaker at their conference and will having a very significant series of meetings with the leadership of the 13+ churches there. I am asking for your prayers as I prepare for this significant time. Thanks for your prayers and for your financial support! In His service, |
