On May 6th, the long awaited day finally came for us to take Antonio, Candi and their three little girls to Balfate, Honduras. This Guatemalan family has worked with us in our church in the city as well as a village church, for some years now. The Lord called them to prepare to be full time workers.

We rented a four wheel drive vehicle with air conditioning and drove 12 hours to our destination. The temperature was 90 degrees, with 80% humidity. It usually cools off around October when the rains start. We only had to cross one shallow river this time. The final stretch of the trip, after the city of La Ceiba, is on an unpaved road for an hour and 20 minutes of bumpy ride. Delicious chicken salad and ham and cheese sandwiches awaited us when we finally got in around 6 p.m., just before dark.

Christians in Action missionary-nurse, Norma Hunt has been in Balfate for more than four years. Her full time job is to work at the Luz a las Naciones Hospital, nestled on higher ground above the ocean waves of the Caribbean Sea. While she does medical work, she also tells patients about Jesus and prays with them. That is how she met one man with machete wounds about two years ago.

House visits to cure the wound eventually led to the patient committing his life to the Lord. Then other family members followed his example. Soon home Bible studies led by Norma and fellow missionary doctors and nurses yielded a congregation...with no full time pastor. That’s where they and we began to pray, and the Lord led the Hernandez family to answer this need.

The congregation consists of 40 adults and 40 children, roughly. They decorated the school room where they meet and made chicken and rice for lunch for EVERYBODY after the inauguration of their new pastor. What impressed me most was the joy and love the people showed to us all and in their worship of the Lord.

Please pray for health and strength for the Hernandez as they make adjustments to new surroundings (especially the heat factor), a new school for the girls, and new demands of a growing ministry.

Love and Prayers,

Miguel and Linda
