Dear Partners, Greetings, from lovely Costa Rica this time. A few months ago a new Honduran immigration law was passed that no longer allows us to go to bordering countries to renew visas. The rains were pretty wild around the day I was to leave, so I had another “bout” with the river. I didn’t realize the current was as strong as it was. When it washed my flip-flops off as I held my coat, camera, etc. high so as not to get it all wet, I lost my balance and down I went. Between the swift current and the rocks on my bare feet, I wouldn’t have made it without prayer and help from one of the guys. Thankfully, after a day or two of drying out, the camera seems to be working fine.
School has started again and Jefferson is so glad to be back with me. He’s having to do quite a bit of extra studying to make up for missed homework last year, but I think with lots of help he’ll do fine. Thank you so much for prayers. He was with his family while I was gone these few days. We continue to see the LORD changing lives. The little church that is meeting in the school is growing, and we’ll be so glad when Pastor Antonio and his family arrive. Please keep them in your prayers. His family has put a lot of pressure on them to not go so far away. They told them that if they leave and something happens to his aging mother they will hold Antonio responsible for it. At one point we received word that they would not be coming. Then in a few days word came that the LORD had touched the mother’s heart, and she told them they could go wherever the LORD was sending them and they would have her blessing. A few weeks ago Dorcas’ family suffered a horrible tragedy. Yari, her oldest daughter and the mother of the 2, 5,and 7 year old grandchildren who live with Dorcas, was murdered. She hadn’t been home for almost a year and a half and was involved in a bad life style. She and another young woman were killed and then someone who saw what happened was also murdered. The 7 year old is a little boy who is headed down a bad road also as Dorcas is unable to care for him. I talked to one of our missionaries who is beginning a children’s home, and he is very open to the idea of taking him in. Please pray for wisdom in this decision. Also the other children really are not safe with Dorcas because of the horrible living conditions and lack of supervision. (Dorcas is the lady with such crippling rheumatoid arthritis.)
The story doesn’t end there. My boss, JoAnna Stone from Home Health days in Kentucky, has also felt the LORD leading her to help me get more dependable transportation; so she and another nurse that I worked with, Sandy Williams, are doing a fund raiser in Kentucky. Then the elders of the Gallatin Gateway Bible Church asked how much is still lacking. It seems pretty obvious that the LORD wants me to have a more dependable vehicle. How thrilling for me to watch this all work out. Thank you so much for being such faithful partners through your prayers and offerings. |
